Even Positive People Have Negative Thoughts – How To Work Through Them
All people struggle with negative or disempowering thoughts at stages of their life. This is normal and a part of our mental, emotional, metaphysical and physical growth. Where disempowering thoughts become a problem is if they are continually repeated as it starts to become a habit. Here are 5 easy tips to help break negative or disempowering thoughts.
Stop what ever you are doing. Usually thoughts are associated with actions, environments and habit. Just by stopping what you are doing will help to take the first step to making a shift in your emotions.
Also when you catch an unwanted thought or emotion, imagine yelling the word STOP…… in your mind. This is enough to disrupt the thought process.
- Change your Environment
Often disempowering or negative thoughts can be associated with your environment. Often friends, family, relationships and also your working environment can all be triggers for disempowering thoughts and disempowering habits. By changing your friendship circles and limiting the time you spend with disempowering family members can also help you to create the life you desire by staying empowered. If your working environment is the problem it is important to consider your career, place of employment or life path especially considering most people spend more than a third of their life at work or engaging in work related activities including getting ready for work and commuting to and from work.
- Change your Physiology
Your body and emotions are directly linked. Most people can tell if someone is upset or feeling low just by the way they look and their posture, just as most people can tell when someone is excited, energetic or having fun. This is your mind controlling your body but your body can change your mind. Just by jumping around when tired will instantly increase your energy, so will lifting your chest up, raising your head and eyes and slowing your breathing will help increase your confidence and reduce anxiety in new situations.
Note: Repetition creates habits. So keep moving your body until your new feelings become habit.
- Learn More
New ideas give you a new way of thinking and new questions to ask yourself.
Most successful and truly happy people are students of life opting not to engage in drama and worry, instead opting to watch and read biographies or non fiction based material in which they can learn. They also attend seminars and events where they can learn more about themselves and chosen life topics.
Many successful people that I have studied and studied under say the key to their ongoing success, motivation, drive and happiness is ongoing education and learning.
- Give Yourself a Break
High expectations are great but they can also cause feelings of low self worth and never being enough if they are not controlled and harnessed. Big dreams without clear, precise, attainable goals as well as maintaining life balance can be demoralising and soul crushing, especially if your dreams seem out of reach.
Get clear on your goals and dreams so that you can give yourself a break and know that everything is going to happen in good time.
